Description

A crowd favorite, this piece was designed for Reno’s sesquicentennial, aka 150th, anniversary art showing, hosted by Pitch Black Printing. Each iteration of the beloved Reno arch is depicted, from its inception, to present day.

The original Reno Arch was built in 1926 to promote Nevada’s Transcontinental Highway Exposition, after the expo, the city council decided to keep the arch, and announced a competition to find a slogan to replace the Transcontinental info. G.A. Burns of Sacramento won, coining the beloved “Reno, The Biggest Little City in the World” The original arch was replaced in 1963, being moved to Idlewild Park for a few years, and then into storage. In 1994 it was reassembled for a movie and now spends its days spanning Lake Street.  The arch of the sixties came down in the eighties, and was donated to the city of Willits, CA, where it still is today. Our current arch has been in place since 1987, and most recently underwent a color palette change to silver & blue in 2018.

Spending most of my life in the Biggest Little City, the arch and its iconic stature have always held a special place in my heart. I well up with excitement whenever I catch a glimpse of it in a movie or pop culture. I am honored to have created a piece that so many love displaying in their home & business.
